Why the Coorong - Economy

The Coorong District Council area is economically diverse including dairying, fisheries, tourism, broad-acre farming and extensive grain handling facilities. Income is also sourced through traditional horticulture production such as olives, with an export accredited olive crushing and bottling plant established in an industrial precinct in Tailem Bend. Movement of intensive dairy enterprises to Tintinara supported by underground water supplies is shifting the economic emphasis from dairy production around the Lower Lakes while increasing the economic potential of lands along the Dukes Highway. Planned developments in  recreational and retirement housing with additional potential to house an expanding workforce at Tailem Bend has set Meningie for a change of economic direction. At the hub of major transport networks Tailem Bend is set for expansion and a dynamic future as an industrial and energy centre.
